Before I do anything else, I would like to announce that the Digital Art Academy and Painter Talk are now back up and running. I want to say a big thank you to Karen Bonaker, the owner and creative force behind DAA and Painter Talk. And, I must thank Ken Foster, Karen’s IT guy, who worked tirelessly to get us back up and running.
The following video is in response to a question by Maribel about digital watercolor. She was not getting the same results I was getting; her colors were too dark. Thanks for the question Maribel; I hope this video helps.

Once again, excellent. Will look up how to find the sampler for color, and underlying layer visibility.
Update: The video was terrific, as always. I have a question or two that comes from my trying to use the scratch pad feature. I clicked on brush tracking in Edit and later, on brush calibration. Then I clicked on “Enable” but when I activated the Scratch Pad in both cases, the “Enable” box became unchecked and wouldn’t allow a recheck. Also a default color of sorts, blue, was the only color available even though others were selected as well as different brushes. Sliders on the Calibration panel were inactive, probably from the unchecked “Enable” box. “Help” offers nothing about this. New day….new questions……..and it’s only Monday.

Bear in mind that Brush Tracking and Brush Calibration are two different animals. Brush Tracking is global and Brush Calibration is tied to one brush. From what you describe, both functions are working as they should be. If you check enable Brush Calibration and then click on the Scratch pad in the Brush Calibration panel, the enable button grays out, but that is OK. Go ahead and make your brush stroke and click OK…when you do that the brush calibration panel will update to the new settings.

If I said Digital Art Gallery, I misspoke. I meant to say Digital Art Academy, which is an online school owned by my friend, Karen Bonaker. I do teach there, but am on sabbatical until July…maybe sooner…LOL. Check it out; we have Painter classes at very reasonable prices.

Hi Skip, I have a question about the Bristly Dab brush library. In your video the variants look like palette knifes, when you’re painting the flowers. When I downloaded this library they were impasto brushes. Which ones are they? Can I get the palette knifes? Thank you so much for all you do for the digital world, keep up the GREAT WORK!!!!!!!

Hi Ray,
I haven’t made any of the brushes that I refer to as Palette Knives available, yet. When you see me paint and I am using a particular category like Bristly Dabs, I usually have many more brushes in the category than have been offered to the readers of my blog. Those brushes are in constant flux, and may or may not paint in the same manner that you may have seen them in the videos. When I do make them available, I’ll post them to the blog.
