Dear Skip, I was just wondering. Is there any way to be able to view a preview thumbnail on windows explorer, instead of just the regular program icon? I tried to find this out, and I’m not sure if this happens to everybody or just me. I’m running Painter 12 on a Windows 7, 64-bit computer. If you know of any workaround to this it would be great! Thank you in advance. (sorry I posted here, but I wasn’t sure where to write this question)

You should be able to see the rif files as a thumbnail of the image in Windows Explorer. On my old computer, I had the same problem and discovered that my user file was corrupted and I had to create a new one.
There are several variables that we need to check. First create a new user on your computer. Then from the new user, open Window’s explorer and navigate to a RIFF file and see if you can see the thumbnails. Let me know if you can or cannot see the image. I’ll be away from the computer for a while, but I’ll check when I come back.

First i want to say thank you for those videos and brushes. After watching your videos, I bought a wacom tablet and painter 12.
Now i want to speed up the learning so I am thinking about taking your watercolor classes in academy. What is the recommended PC to follow your class? I saw in one of the video you have like 12 cores CPU @.@ I have painter 12 on mac, which is a macbook air, lastest model with core i7 cpu, but the real watercolor brushes is so cpu intensive that i got lag.
And i have a wacom intuos5 medium.

I cannot believe this. I was late replying to your note to DAA and now I am late replying to your questions about the class. I think I answered most of the questions with my reply to the note to DAA.
I don’t know if there is a recommended PC for Painter 12. There are basic system requirements, but in my opinion they are too feeble to run Painter well. My PC does in fact have 12 cores…6 physical and 6 virtual. The processor is also an Intel i7, so knowing that you have an i7 isn’t all that helpful because they come in many varieties. Mine is i7-3960X CPU @ 3.30 GHz with turbo boost to 3.90 GHz and it has 15 Megs of cache. I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate and have 16 GB Quad Channel DDR3 at 1600 MHz (not the fastest RAM…my mistake…should have gotten faster). Real watercolor are so cpu intensive that it can take a while to finish rendering a stroke, but is within acceptable limits. Anyway…you can check my Processor against others as a comparison when you are shopping.

Maybe you have an answer for this – just starting with Painter 12, but within a short time the “wind” function has no effect on the paint flow. If I start with the shift key to reset everything, then it works a little bit, but after several more attempts, the flow gradually ceases and there’s no response to “wind.” I’d love to be able to have the paint flow up and down the sheet as you do. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for all your tutorials, very helpful.

Can you tell me the variants that you used? Some brushes can flow more than others. If you are using a Real Watercolor variant that is dry rather than runny, then wind will not effect it. You should not have to reset with the shift start. It would be helpful for me to know your computer stats. If your computer isn’t very powerful, the flow will happen very slowly and you may not notice.
I can’t think of anything else until you can give me more information.
