New Wacom Drivers Posted November 6, 2014…Go get them.

Hey Gang,

Believe it or not, for the first time my Wacom Desktop Center notified me of a new driver.  This time, instead of downloading the driver from the Wacom site, I let the Wacom Desktop Center download and install the new driver.  A follower mentioned that he used the Wacom Desktop Center last time and it worked fine.  I haven’t used it before because it never notified me of a new driver…so, I figured that something was amiss.

But, apparently nothing is amiss.  I just followed the prompts and my Wacom Desktop Center downloaded and installed the new driver.  It worked like a charm.  And, my tablet settings were still in place.  I didn’t need to back up and restore my settings.  I’m very excited about this.  It means I do not have to keep checking for updates.  Yippee!  Great job Wacom.

In case your Wacom Desktop Center didn’t do the job, go to Wacom Drivers and download the latest drive for your tablet.

Enjoy,

Skip

  1. Thanks, Skip. You are always the best at reminding us to update our Wacom tablets! Unfortunately, my Wacom Desktop Center “tells me” that it is only for the Cintiq (which I don’t have…….sad face). Have a great day!

    • Hi Deb, I think the Wacom Desktop Center will work for the latest Intuos Pro, too. It might work for the Intuos 5 Touch, but I’m not sure. I don’t have mine set up anymore. I probably should set it up on the laptop and see what happens. Anyway…I’m just guessing here…so thanks for letting us know that it doesn’t work for your tablet. That means you will have to download manually and I would suggest uninstalling the driver on your machine and then installing the new driver.
      Thanks,

    • Hey Barbara,
Not quite done with Physical Therapy, but soon I hope. The Wacom Desktop Center comes with the tablet that you own. It is relatively new, so I suspect that you need an Intuos Pro or a Cintiq to get it. That being said, it seems that when you load the newest drivers, you will get the Wacom Desktop Center, but I’m guessing again. If you do not have it now, you will need to uninstall the Wacom Driver on your machine and then install the new driver that you downloaded from the Wacom Driver Page.
      Hope this helps,

  2. Hi Skip… do you still have to uninstall the old driver … even using the Wacom Desktop Ctr., or does that do it automatically too?
Thank you for your time, much appreciated!!

    • Hi Donna,
I didn’t do it. I just used the Wacom Desktop Center and everything appeared to work perfectly. I think if you uninstall the driver, it will uninstall the Wacom Desktop Center, too, and you wouldn’t be able to use it. I do not know if the current driver was uninstalled or not…it appears that if you use the Wacom Desktop Center, the uninstall isn’t necessary. At least that is my guess.

  3. The Wacom Desktop Center must only work with Windows when it comes to installing new drivers. I have it installed in my Mac and so far it seems like a pretty useless utility. I can use it to backup my settings and that’s about it. >

  4. Hi Skip,

Thanks for the notice. This was also the first time that my Wacom Desktop Center notified me of a new driver. I did exactly what you did and everything is working fine.

  5. Hey Daryl and Miguel, After installing the latest driver, does the utility work differently? I have heard from some who were running Yosemite that the new driver is way better running Yosemite. So, maybe when you install it, the utility will work the same way it does on a PC. Let me know if it does.

  6. Thanks for the “heads up” on the Desktop Center. Works like a charm and if your tablet doesn’t need an update it will indicate that, such as my old Intuos 4. Avoids installing the wrong driver.

    • Hey Thomas,
I think we are finding that the Wacom Desktop Center isn’t working for all models. For instance, yours is not showing an update for your old Intuos 4. You find those drivers on the Wacom Legacy Driver page. I just went there and there is a new driver for the Intuos 4 for a PC and for a Mac. You may want to check it out. Here is the link for that page: Wacom Legacy Driver Page.

  7. Thanks Skip! I knew I could find out if there are new drivers over here even if it is for my ancient Intuos 3! I checked the Legacy driver page and the “front” page under Intuos. It’s the same driver for me. I did get the Desktop Center with a new driver for my new machine but it did not notify me.

  8. Skip I’m a new fan of your site and have enjoyed your videos. I grew up painting and my mom is also an artist. Unfortunately 10 years ago I had hand surgery and have lost dexterity in my hand and can’t use standard paint brushes or paint media. Since then I have been looking to get back into painting and art and started looking into digital media. Long story short I would like your advice on what Wacom board to begin with and whatever you recommend for me to get back into painting. And whatever other items you suggest. Thanks so much for the time.

    • Hi Micheal,
The Wacom tablets all use a stylus that is similar to a paint brush. Obviously it doesn’t have a brush on the end of it, but the barrel is round like a paint brush. There is also a rocker clicking device on the stylus. It isn’t necessary to use it and it can be disabled. Have you looked at the pens that come with the Wacom Boards? I think you should do that and see if it looks like something you can use. You can hold it like a pencil, if that works for you. Let me know what you think of the pens.

    • Hi Rich,
That is a tough one to answer. Most folks would say no. But, aren’t you using a Mac? If you are using Yosemite, then and upgrade may be a good idea. But, if you really are not having any problems, you could stay where you are knowing that you can always upgrade if necessary.

    • Hey GC,
It came with an updated driver about a year ago. Have you looked under Programs > Wacom Tablet? That is where mine is along with other utilities.

Let me know if you find it.
