I have had so much fun playing with these brushes. Sometime in the future when you aren’t so busy, as I know you are now I have a couple of questions. What settings would you suggest for a brush in this category to do everything the same except without the grainy effect? I tried to lower the grain settings on the option bar, but it said I needed to capture the brush first. I did not know how to do this.

Hi Kathi,
So sorry I missed this one. Just ignore the the comment about capturing a dab…you don’t need to do that. Lowering the grain setting will work, but you may want to look at the granulation setting in the Real Watercolor Brush Control Panel. Try reducing to zero and see if that is what you are looking for.

Hey Skip, these brushes are excellent. In fact, I may not have gotten Painter 12 if I hadn’t found your brushes during the demo period as the default Real Watercolor brushes are a bit underwhelming. Very nice work!

You’ve made my day. I love Painter, especially 12, and I’m thrilled if anything I did encourage you to get it. I think my watercolor brushes can be overwhelming at times. I tend to look for big effects…sometimes subtle is better. 🙂

A week ago I watched your tutorial on using your drips and runs brushes. Now I can’t find that tutorial again? Can you tell me where it is? Also, in the tutorial you mentioned that your download contained more papers. I did download the drips and runs but I can’t locate the papers. Please help! Thank you.

thaks to your set of brushes ive lost all my brushes and i had to uninstall whole program

I’m sorry you uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. Your brushes were not lost. You had the choice of downloading Drips and Runs.brushlibrary or Drips and Runs.brushcategory. You selected Drips and Runs.brushlibrary, which would have been my choice, too. When the library is installed, Painter changes to the Library, so when you look at your brush selector, the only category you will see in that particular library will be drips and runs. Had you gone to the option button of your Brush Selector and selected Brush Library, you would have seen the other libraries still there. You would then switch to Painter X3 or Painter 12 or Painter 11 libraries and you would see all of your brushes are still there.

I hope the video explains it well and that you see that my brushes didn’t not make you lose your brushes; they were still there. Unfortunately, you didn’t understand how Painter’s libraries work and that caused you to think your brushes were gone.

I tried to repeat your Drips and Runs drawing with brush Drippy 1, paper: Close Bleed; General ( captured; real wet cover). But the dripping down of paint was not as quick as you showed in your video. Could you show me how to do it.

Hi Skip,
I love the work you’ve done in making such a fine selection of tools, however, I’ve run into some trouble trying to import the papers from the download above. The file type is “.paperslibrary” which Corel (Painter 12) greys out, when the rest of the paper files I already have the extension “.papers”
Am I missing something obvious here or is there some trick to importing them? Any help would be hugely appreciated as I cannot wait to get painting with these beautiful effects!

Hi Sam, Unfortunately, I do not have Painter 12 installed anymore, so I cannot test the issue. At some point, Corel Painter started using .paperlibrary as the extension for a paper file. If memory serves, it started with Painter 12, but not the first version. Painter 12 was updated a number of times; the final version was Corel Painter 12.2 Service Pack 1. You can check if you have the current build by going to Help > About Corel Painter and look for the number in the center of the window. You should see 12.2.1.1212. If you do not see that number go here: Patches and update your version of Painter. It is best to update in order…in other words, find your version number and update to the next number and continue updating until you are at Painter 12.2 Service Pack 1. I think this will correct the problem you are having…if not…let me know and I’ll see if I can figure out something else. Enjoy, Skip
