I don’t pretend to understand the philosophy behind Enso. Wikipedia states that in Zen, Enso is a circle that is hand drawn in one or two uninhibited brush strokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create. For me it is similar to creating Sumi-e or using ink and brush to make the circle.
I cannot tell you why I like these images or why I enjoy doing them. I just do. I find the process relaxing. Normally I go too far and embellish the images as you will see in the first of the video. But I also do the simple one stroke forms but rarely save them.
I thought you might like to try them yourself. Just have fun. The practice also strengthens my drawing skills. Enjoy…
This is an example of Enso created in Corel Painter 2023. Let me know if you try Enso.
I reviewed what I had done for the new features of Painter 2023 and realized I had finished. There have been numerous requests for tutorials about watercolor in Painter. This post is exactly that…tutorials about watercolor in Corel Painter 2023. I will be working in Painter 2023 and the resources that I make available will be compatible with 2023.
Let’s get started. The first three videos talk about using Selections with watercolor. Since selections are enhanced in 2023, I thought this was a good place to start.
I am going to provide the brushes I used in the tutorials. This next series of videos concern the brushes and how to use them.
The next series of videos demonstrate painting with watercolor in Corel Painter 2023.
The next tutorials will show demonstrate this painting.
The next series of videos demonstrate this second painting.
This is the next tutorial. Sadly, I was focused on the painting and did the whole thing in one video. Sorry for the length of the video.

Following is a box file with all the brushes I used in the demonstrations. To install a box file, open Painter and go to Menu > Window > Custom Palette > Organizer and select import. Go to you saved box file and select it. The file will be installed in painter as a new brush category under the active Brush Library. Enjoy.
Following is the Paper Scripts Library that I used. To install, open Painter, got to Menu > Window > Scripts and select the three lines in the top right corner. From the menu, select Import Script Library, then navigate to your saved file and select it. If you are having problems, you might be importing Script instead of Script Library.
