Introduction to Painter X3, Part 1

Elaina Moore-Kelly is well-known for her “Intro Courses for Corel Painter.”  Part 1 of her Introduction to Corel Painter X3 is open for registration.

I know, you have used Painter for a several years and you don’t need an introduction course to Painter. Or, maybe you are just starting with Painter and are utilizing all the videos you can find on You Tube or various blogs, and you don’t think you need an Introduction course.  Phooey on that.  Yes, I am telling you, the advanced user and beginner, that you are very wrong.

Corel Painter is a very complex piece of software, which means it is difficult to learn.  Time and again, experienced users surprise me with their shallow knowledge of Corel Painter.  Yes, you can get by with limited knowledge and create stunning works, but imagine what you could produce if you knew the program more intimately.  Extra knowledge improves work flow, too.  Trust me; a second look at Painter is a “win-win” situation.  The benefits you gain will more than justify the small cost of this class.  If you are a beginner, the class prepares you to properly use all the bells and whistles of Corel Painter X3.

Elaina’s classes are beautifully crafted.  The class is open enrollment, which means you can register at any time and work the assignments at your own pace.  You may download all materials and use them when needed.  Register for Introduction to Corel Painter X3, Part 1 now.

Corel Painter X3 Natural Media Studio: Opaques

Tim Shelbourne has a new class open at The Artists’ Quarter (TAQ), Corel Painter X3 Natural Media Studio: Opaques.  Tim’s classes are always top-notch and I have enjoyed taking every one of them.  This class has the added bonus of some new custom brushes created by Tim.  The brushes are fabulous.  He calls them Schmid brushes and they were inspired by the work of renowned artist, Richard Schmid.  Check out this video on FB; https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152235582763032&set=o.508369542565533&type=2&theater.

Here is an example of an image created by Tim using his new brushes.  In class Tim will demonstrate his techniques.

Brushes and Stuff from Paint Jam 2, Corel Painter X3

Hello Everyone,

There is still time to register for the third session of Paint Jam 2 with Corel Master Painters Karen Bonaker, Peggy Gyulai, and me.  In the last session see the finishing touches applied to the Masters’ paintings and learn what challenges they came up against, what brushes they discovered and what lessons they learned that they’ll take with them for their next project. Plus, get some insight into what to do once your work is complete, with topics covering mixed media inspiration, social media and selling your newly created masterpiece!

If you attended the second session, I promised to provide brushes and flow maps that I used in my painting. BUT, please remember that these can only be used in Corel Painter X3.  Here is the Paint Jam 2 Brush Category.  I also promised the Paint Jam Flow Map Library used, and these work with Painter X3 or Painter 12.

This is the completed painting that I did during my part.  I almost completed it in the 10 minute time frame.  I love direct brush work using watercolor or ink.  The work is greatly influenced by Chinese brush painting and Japanese Sumi-e.  Of course it is a digital version and the approach is different.

I did another painting, too, but it wasn’t influenced by the landscape we were using for inspiration.  It does show an important part of the brushes I provided.  Velocity governs opacity instead of pressure as most of my brushes do.  Opacity via velocity feels more like the way a traditional brush feels…lays dark paint while moving slowly, but if you speed up, lighter paint is laid down.

I can explain the brushes better in videos.  Here are three ten minute videos for your enjoyment.

Well that it for this post.  I must tell you one more thing.  Many of you know that my sister had a stroke and I travel back and forth between Mississippi and Georgia to care for her.  I am having a few medical issues as well.  On the day of the last session of Paint Jam, I will be having a medical procedure that may prevent me from participating.  I am hoping I will be through with the procedure and can join all of you, but if I cannot, I hope you will understand.  Do register for the last session; it will be terrific.  Karen and Peggy are terrific!

New Wacom Drivers Released September 3, 2013…Go Get ’em!

Hello Everyone,

I just found out that Wacom released new drivers on Sept 3, 2013.  For the link for downloads for folks in the Americas look below:

Wacom Tablet Drivers

I am a little confused by the drivers this time.  There are drivers for the Intuos Pro, and the Intuos.  I am away from home and have my Intuos 4 with me.  I know the driver for the Intuos is the correct driver for the Intuos 4.  I am uncertain if that is the driver for the Intuos 5.  I believe the driver for the Intuos 5 will be the same as the driver for the Intuos Pro, but I cannot test it until I return home.

Remember you should uninstall your previous Wacom tablet driver before installing the new one.  If you do not know how to do this, look on the blog banner above for Search.  Search for Intuos Drivers or installing Intuos drivers to find the post about uninstalling and installing Intuos drivers.
